Safe and responsible boating makes the waters of Southern Wisconsin a more enjoyable place for all. Knowing—and following—the waterway "rules of the road" is not only your responsibility as a boat handler, it is the law. Observing "no wake zones", maintaining posted speed limits, wearing your PFD and not operating a vessel under the influence are all important principles that can not only improve your boating experience, but save a life.

Below are links to websites with basic "rules of the road" information. The best way to learn and understand these rules, however, is to take a boating education class—offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
